Data duplication removed from workflow using digital writing

Anoto digital writing technology helps the Food Standards Agency to improve the flow of information. Around 40 dairy hygiene inspectors are now able to send back real-time data back to the head office and as a direct result, significant improvements have been seen to reporting efficiencies.

Food Standards Agency

About Us

It is an independent government department responsible for food safety and hygiene across the UK. Working with businesses to help them produce safe food, and with local authorities to enforce food safety regulations – the vision is ‘Safer food for the nation’.

Challenge

The dairy hygiene inspectors already used a paper-based form which was then keyed into a spreadsheet and emailed to the central support team for analysis.  The central support team had to process each email sent by the inspection team by saving each attached form, uploading the information to the database and posting the form to the farmer.

Solution

Anoto delivered a data capture solution to improve the flow of information to the central support team from the dairy hygiene inspectors, helping to streamline business processes. Digital writing technology integrated well with existing workflows and working practises without a need to dedicate time to training to learn a new technology.

The dairy farm inspectors were equipped with a digital pen and mobile phone to help them complete on average between 5 to 10 daily inspections. Using  comprehensive digitalised forms, information was transmitted to the central support team for analysis.

Now only thing dairy hygiene inspectors have to do is tick a box to send the information to the central support team, where the information is validated. Dairy farm inspections are more efficient as forms are left with the farmers, allowing them to no longer have to wait to receive the information from the Food Standards Agency.

Benefits

  • allows for the quick transmission and access of data
  • permits completed forms to be left with the farmer
  • enables dairy farm inspections become more efficient
